NFRS 2018 NOVICE BREEDER OF THE YEAR. AWARDED STUD STATUS AUGUST 2018
stop chasing stars...?
L&S Shows are rated 1-Star by the NFRS. Which means the Judge can award your rat 1 star if he/she feels that your rat is a particularly good example of their Variety. In the NFRS, 'points mean prizes', or to be specific, they make Champions out of your rats. 8 points makes a rat a Silver Champion, 12 stars a Gold Champion and 16 stars a Platinum Champion. The Midlands Rat Club shows, although judged to the same standards, aren't star rated and you can't win any NFRS stars at them. Therefore, by no longer going to the L&S (where I could win stars) and choosing to go to the MRC instead (where I can't) i have "stopped chasing stars" and opted to do something different instead.
Left the L&S? Why?
A few little reasons that added up to a great big whole.
There is one thing they could have changed that would have kept me there though: provide Judging Critique Sheets for your rat so you know what the Judge likes and dislikes about your rat. They don't do that at the L&S and you're totally in the dark as to why your rat was rated as it was or what was thought of it. I did ask once why they don't do that and apparently, the L&S never has.
It's said, "you can always ask the Judge after the show" but I want a take-home sheet of information per rat that I can sit down and analyse and think about, as you get at the other shows. I felt "short-changed" without one. And I ended up wondering why I was entering rats there as I wasn't learning anything about them.
